CaiX Carnitine Uptake Carrier

The CaiX protein works in conjunction with the CbcWV transport system to uptake L-carnitine into the cell.

We analyzed its function through the use of liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry.

LCMS Data for CbcWV and CaiX.

As you can see from our data, the amount of L-carnitine suspended in the media of our cells was decreased drastically as our cells grew. When comparing controls of cells with the backbone only, we found no change in the L-carnitine concentration of the media.
